The Qualities of Silver
Silver had its own special properties. From ancient times silver had been
associated with the moon.
The moon is linked to intuition, moods, the ebb and flow of tides and the
waters in our body.
The moon is the ruler of Cancer and the fourth house.
It is associated with the sixth chakra, often referred to as the "third-eye".
The sixth chakra is the area of clear thinking and intuition.
The moon was also part of Greek and Mexican Mythology.
Artemis, sister of Apollo (known as Diana to the Romans), who was goddess
of the moon and the hunt, is said to have used silver arrows.
The Aztecs used it in their jewellery and dress for its mirror like qualities.
Mirrors found in Mexico which were made of highly polished minerals were symbols
of portals to the spirit world.
Silver has also been used in the medical profession - for its antibiotic
qualities; it reduces infection. Some wound dressings incorporate silver
so that bacteria will be prevented from getting into the wound. Silver has
a toxic effect on bacteria, fungi and algae.
Even the ancient civilizations knew that things kept better in a silver container,
especially on long sea voyages.
